Against The Grain, Rory Gallagher inspired Strat set.

$450.00

It took years to capture the elusive Rory midrange honking magic. Beveled, aged, A5 magnets, Plain Enamel wire. The only deviation and improvement is that I’m using flat non-staggered pole pieces for a more even output volume response from string to string. Most people don’t know that Rory’s ‘61 Strat after it was stolen in ‘66 and was left in a drainage ditch so the pickups were ruined by moisture so the entire pickguard assembly was swapped out for a new ‘65 or ‘66. (You can see in pictures that the original ‘61 middle pickup screw hole pickguard was changed by ‘66 to the new pickguard screw pattern that happened by late ‘63. In ‘65 Fender changed the wire from Formvar to Plain Enamel which in turn changes the tone from a bit darker tone to a brighter one. This is Rory’s signature tone. In the early to mid 70’s the ‘66 pickups were shot and Rory installed a ‘74 Strat neck and middle pickup, both of which are Plain Enamel wire. So basically all of Rory’s signature recording were done with Plain Enamel Strat pickups. By the late ‘70’s, possibly 1980 he put a hotter pickup like a Fender X1 or something similar in the bridge position and then a DiMarzio later on. So when Rory passed away the ‘74’s were still in his Strat but it is not really know what bridge pickup is in it, but it is a higher output pickup. (covers are additional) (Specify in the notes if you want covers and if you want aged covers).
